Research Methods

primary research means to get ther source of information directly from the main source. in the media surveys are one way used to get primary information. focus groups gather together and talk about what they like and dislike about a product. in films you may have screening sometimes the opinion of the audience is so important that if they dont like bits of a film, its likely to be re-shot focus groups are specifically designed for its target audience. in the media it is also common to have one on one interviews so that you can 'grill' your interviewee more group interviews are also done but one on ones are proven to be more effective. observation is very direct for example you empirical means research you can look and see i.e. observable ((e.g im going to do some empirical research))... contacting the producer of a media text is a good
chat room can be a good place to look for primary resources you could go there to find out how people feel about a new media project.

secondary - means to gather your sources based on someone elses thoughts, opinions or discoveries for example the media guardian, telegraph(technology) all online aswell !! radio 4 the media show podcast on wednsdays because it is what peoples said about things

Quantitative

we would use both methods for research for many reasons because of reliability helps whenit comes to analysis because

are magazines representing ethnic minorities fairly?

contact analysis is the form of research we used to come about our findings all of our informations was primary as we got our information straight from the source which was a magazine 'instyle'. after doing a count we found that the majority of people were white which showed that white people are represented most in THAT magazine. But we didnt answer the question because we only looked at one magazine, for us to fully answer the question we would have to look at other magazines and compare.
the good thing about the research we did was that it was all primary so there wasnt any doubt in the authenticity of our findings because we did emperical research we l
the bad thing about it was we only looked at one
