Other forms of research

experiments- is a test to see if something you are researching is true or not. I think this could come in use when it comes to test something like a new game on a console. If you added a new feature to the game and wanted to see if gamers understood or liked you could gather a group of different people to test it. It is factual and would give you a controlled group of people. A disadvantage is that the amount of people you use will often not reflect the majority views.

participant observation- is when the researcher participates in the activity in order to better understand. This can be very useful if you need your research to be documented as a fact you participating will add to your findings. if someone says something and you don't know if they are being honest or not you doing it may give you a better an idea. A disadvantage to this may occur if you are researching that you aren’t the target audience for then your opinion on it may be not very important

historical research- looking at the history and development of something, or studying old examples of something and comparing with contemporary examples. An advantage to this is if you are researching something in order to create a product you can research how similar products have done and therefore see what it takes to be successful. A disadvantage is sometimes the history can be so out of date that it won’t have any effect on present day

rhetorical analysis- analysis of the techniques used to persuade the audience.
An advantage is that it will help you to brand yourself better if you wanted to market yourself to an audience. it also shows you what the media thinks of there audience and how they are persuaded.

Comparative analysis-
research that compares/contrasts behaviors/media. An advantage is that you can compare products work with those that don’t and then analysis why. Knowing this information may help if you created a media product.
A disadvantage of this t

competitor analysis- close analysis and rating of a range of competitors products. An advantage of this is that it can keep you ahead of your competition by trying to always be better. gives a fuller view of the argument what you are up against and what you need to be better than. A disadvantage is that if you focus on one competitor to much you may become similar to them because there the only thing you look at apart from your own stuff
